Welcome to the fifth post in this student learning blog series. This week’s featured resources, brought to you by various members of staff from across the University, are below.

Food for thought

The magical insight logging framework. Could this five app method make your content consumption more meaningful? Use Ali’s approach and take away more information from the podcasts you listen to, videos you watch, articles you read and sites you browse.

How to

Caption a video with Caption.Ed. Use the browser extension to caption lecture and tutorial recordings. This will allow you to enable closed captions on videos, providing subtitles of what is being said, as it is being said, throughout a recording. (**Update September 2023 – the University no longer provides Caption.Ed. All lecture recordings in Panopto are now automatically captioned).

Watch your recorded lectures. Familiarise yourself with the Panopto viewer interface so you can make good use of the available features when watching your lectures online.

Opportunities and events

PC Clinic. Did you know the University has an affordable tech repair service for students? We can fix smashed phone screens, damaged Windows and Apple devices, alongside other issues.

More information

IT security talk (Wed 30 Sep, 2-3pm). Sam Foster, the University’s IT Security Analyst, is hosting a one-hour online webinar to highlight recent threats to UK Universities and common tactics used by cyber criminals which students should be aware of.
