Welcome to the eighth post in this student learning blog series. This week’s featured resources, brought to you by various members of staff from across the University, are below.
Food for thought
Are you late-night doomscrolling? Checking your phone for an extra two hours every night can slowly erode your mental health, particularly in current times.
Boost your writing with an app. Writing apps can be helpful tools and many of them are free. Could they be useful to you when composing emails, blog posts and so on?
How to
Learn a language while you browse. Toucan is a Chrome Extension that helps you learn new vocabulary in the following languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Korean. It translates select words in line while you browse the web so you pick up new words in context.
Opportunities and events
Cyber Scotland Week 2021. Runs from Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th February. Students have the chance to win a £20 Amazon voucher by taking part in the Cyber quiz. Find out how to enter on the IT Services blog.
PC Clinic re-opens. After a short closure, the PC Clinic has re-opened. They can fix smashed phone screens, damaged Windows and Apple devices, alongside other issues.
In case you missed it
Get the Microsoft Authenticator app. All students’ emails are protected by multi-factor authentication. Use the Microsoft Authenticator app as your preferred method so you can verify your logins when you don’t have a mobile signal. This also means you can change SIM cards without interruption.
