The University will launch a new set of graduate attributes in time for the 20/21 academic year.

The graduate attributes are a set of twenty attributes which all students here at St Andrews have the opportunity to develop throughout their degrees and beyond. They serve as a way of helping students track their skill development and reflect on the skills they wish to develop through their activities in and out of the classroom.

The graduate attributes are a way to help students track the development of transferable skills, and heighten their employability. Students can personalise their graduate attribute wheel to reflect their ambitions and development. In addition to this, it’s an opportunity to bring together curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activity to showcase the value of a holistic University experience.

The attributes are arranged into five categories which mirror the University strategy and so link the individual student journey with the University’s journey.

  1. Leadership
  2. Global outlook
  3. Entrepreneurial mind-set
  4. Diversity awareness
  5. Social responsibility

The attributes give academic staff a framework to help them design modules, programmes and assessments aligned to University strategy.

Students engaging with the attributes will become more reflective and responsible learners as they think more about the value of their learning and connect it to skill development. The attributes also provide a common language across the University for describing the education opportunities available. This same language will be used by academic staff, professional services staff and students. Over time we will be able to track attributes by module and build a map of which academic modules, and co and extra-curricular activities strengthen which attributes.

Students can start logging their activities and tracking the development of their attributes via their MySaint page, via the My Graduate Attributes tab which gives more information about how to use the new online platform.
