Postgraduates: You said….we listened
Student feedback is important to us and to show you that we listen, we have listed some of the changes we have made in response to feedback received from postgraduates:
You said: we want more careers support
We did:
- Directors of Postgraduate Research were asked to share examples of good practice happening in their School
- the Careers Centre has employed more staff specifically for postgraduate students, and will work closely with Schools to expand the careers support available to research students
- more careers focused workshops have been added to the GRADskills programme.
You said: we want more opportunities to share our research
We did:
- relaunched the St Leonard’s Lecture Series which allows doctoral students to present their research to a mixed audience of students, staff, and the public
You said: we want an academic development programme for Masters students
We did:
- improved the MSkills development programme, a programme specifically designed for taught postgraduates, comprising a number of workshops, online resources, mentoring schemes and networking events.
You said: we want more opportunities to meet and make connections with other postgraduates from different disciplines
We did:
- St Leonard’s College introduced a monthly coffee event and regular early evening social event for all postgraduates from all Schools. Those events have been paused due to Covid-19 but we will be bringing them back as soon as possible.
- every Tuesday and Thursday, St Leonard’s hosts a ‘Shut Up and Write’ session online
- an online book club, the St Leonard’s Literary Society, meets once a month.
You said: we want more postgraduate space and a sense of community
We did:
- you will get your own dedicated space when St Leonard’s Postgraduate College takes over the Old Burgh School
- this will provide social and study spaces just for postgraduates
- this space will also host training and development events for postgraduate students.
You said: we want to know what difference feedback has made
We did:
- created this feedback blog
- created an action plan based on your feedback and will keep students informed about changes and improvements via the Provost’s emails, the Postgraduate Executive Forums, and the regular open forums.
