The EngD postgraduate research programme is a 4-year industry focused doctoral research programme.

The research conducted as part of the EngD programme is applied to specific problems faced by an Industry Sponsor, with each problem expressed as a research challenge. The programme allows academia and industry to work together in mentoring and training a Research Engineer, who graduates with the academic rigour to undertake applied research, with skills and experience to apply that research capability directly within industry. Our EngD programme is sponsored by the Data Lab, one of the eight Scottish Funding Council Innovation Centres, which provides studentship funding. Current industrial partners include NHS Lothian, Aggreko (UK), Zillow (USA) and Canon Medical Visualisation (Europe). The programme has been externally commended for providing direct links with academia to industry offering high level, real world experience.
