School of Classics

PGRs at the School of Classics receive School-specific tutor training by the PGR Teaching Mentor during their first year of study.

This includes a School-level induction, a marking fair, a series of shadowing sessions in which PGs observe classes taught by experienced tutors, regular catch-up meetings with the Mentor, and a workshop which features talks on teaching given by staff and short, sample classes given by the trainee tutors. The tutors also benefit from a dedicated Moodle course as well as a tutor handbook. PG tutors start teaching in their second year of study. The Mentor observes the tutors during their first semester of teaching, and offers personalised feedback on their performance as well as continuous support throughout.

For further information please contact the current PGR Teaching Mentor, Dr Nikoletta Manioti, at [email protected]
